Throwing a baby shower, bridal shower, Sunday brunch, or holiday get together and looking for a simple treat to serve? These Puff Pastry Twists are just the thing!

They resemble little breadsticks and remind me of something you’d find at a cookie or coffee shop. What might look fancy and complicated to make, though, is actually so easy.

How to Make Jam Puff Pastry Twists

You only need 2 ingredients – puff pasty and jam. Also recommended is a little bit of flour for your prep area and powdered sugar for finishing.

Here’s a brief summary of what it takes to make these twists (scroll below for the detailed printable.)

  1. You’ll roll out (thawed) puff pastry and cut crosswise into two rectangles.
  2. Brush the pastry with warmed jam, then cover with another sheet of pastry.
  3. Slice into strips, pinch the ends, and twist.
  4. Chill for about 20 minutes.
  5. Bake until golden brown and then sprinkle with powdered sugar (recommended, but not required.)

Recipe Notes

  • Seedless jam is recommended, but use whatever flavor you like!
  • Sprinkle the jam with a little bit of brown sugar and cinnamon for an even sweeter treat.
  • Don’t be too heavy handed with the jam – if you brush on too much, it will ooze out.
  • Replace the jam for melted chocolate or Nutella!
  • Make sure to secure the ends when twisting the pastries, so they don’t unravel while baking.

How to Store Puff Pastry Twists

These are best served within an hour or two of coming out of the oven. Serve them warm or let them cool and then keep them in an airtight container until ready to serve.

  • Prep them in advance – You can also save yourself some time the day of your event, by prepping them in advance and freezing them.
  • To freeze your twists, prep them using the recipe below, but don’t bake them. Put them on a cookie sheet, cover, and freeze until firm (about 3-4 hours.) Once solid, transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container and put the whole thing in the freezer (up to 2 months.) When you’re ready to finish them, pull them out of the freezer and bake.

Crispy, flaky, and delicious. Stand them up in a pretty cup and they look so elegant on a buffet table. You can just let people think you labored over them all day!

Prep Time 15 minutes

Cook Time 12 minutes

Total Time 27 minutes

Servings: 20 twists

  • 8.65 ounces puff pastry (1 sheet, 1/2 package puff pastry)
  • 1/4 cup seedless jam of your choice
  • flour , for dusting
  • powdered sugar , for finishing (recommended)

  • Allow puff pastry to thaw per package instructions.

  • Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper; set aside.

  • Lightly dust work surface and a rolling pin with flour. Roll out puff pastry to a 12×16-inch rectangle. Cut crosswise into two (8×12-inch) rectangles.

  • Heat the jam up in the microwave for about 15 seconds to loosen. With a pastry brush, coat one piece of the pastry with the jam. Place the uncoated pastry piece on top and gently roll them together with the rolling pin (not too hard or the jam will squish out!)

  • Slice into 24 (1/2-inch wide) strips. Pinch the ends tightly and twist.

  • Transfer to the lined baking sheets, spacing them 1 1/2-inches apart. Chill tray for 20 minutes.

  • In the meantime, preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

  • Let cool and then sprinkle with powdered sugar.
